The Artist in You…

art18b-3-web

I cannot recount all the days I sat in front of our huge wood console TV in my parents’ home and turned on PBS (a gold mine for a girl growing up with no cable haha) to watch the magical powers of Bob Ross…I am pretty positive it flows from that amazing mane. How does he always paint the landscape so beautifully? And is it just me or did he always add just the right amount of snow? It seemed as though in only five minutes he had painted a masterpiece, but then again I am pretty sure I was in a trance-like state from those powers of his 🙂 (yet again the hair).

Time flew because he was so enjoyable to watch. He makes art easy, fun, and totally attainable to the average stick-drawing girl. Who decided art was going to be stuffy, expensive, and hard–because I would like to have words with them! Today we are going to channel our inner Bob Ross (you might want to grab a long sleeve button down and some tight, dark jeans just to get into full character).

I don’t know when the last time you went to the Land of Kirk or the Lobby who supplies your Hobby, but art is PRICEY, granted I am cheap! I am always on the look out for our business and home for large pieces of art…and dad gone it they are expensive! Also, why buy something mass produced when you can have something that was created by the most amazing artist in the universe (second to God of course)…YOU!!

Love the simplicity of this large canvas piece below. Check out this link  from architectureartdesigns.com for not only this tutorial but 24 other awesome easy DIY’s canvas art ideas.

If you are wanting something other than canvas Midwest Living has some great resources and ideas!! Love ways of bringing the outdoors in and they display this idea beautifully in the following piece:

Also, remember art isn’t just paper or prints, it is whatever you want it to be. The definition of art:

ärt
noun
1. the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination

Go take a walk around your home, look outdoors, think outside of your “paper only” art brain . Some of my favorite pieces in my home aren’t classified as art (a large vintage propeller, two huge old closet doors I hang photos on, an antique flag stapled to some stained boards for a frame, a display of old cameras, vintage game table, the list could seriously go on for 8 pages haha).

So…let’s put this into action. Go dig around the house, print off that 40% off coupon and head to your craft store. Bring out the artist in you!
