All I Want for Christmas…

tacky cmas copyIf your house is on the market the finish to this melodic statement is easy…and it isn’t “two front teeth”, you want your house to sell!!

Today, I want to address a touchy subject, decorating for Christmas while your home is on the market. Now, first let me say I am PRO-CHRISTMAS (notice I made the red “X” candy-cane striped to prove that very point…haha) So don’t go throwing me under the bus with the rest of the Happy Holiday wishers 🙂 I LOVE CHRISTMAS and don’t think for two seconds I believe that no decorations is the way to go when your house for sale. The key to this season for you is MODERATION.

If you notice the above picture this would be exact opposite of what you are looking for.

Keep this important phrase in mind: K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Sellers!

So before you go dig out all of the air pumps to keep your collection of Disney inflatables large and puffy ask yourself, “Is this simple?” We want the least taste specific items available. Don’t let your buyers go into sensory overload when they pull up to your home, they will remember nothing but the decorations.

For the outside, the easy way out here folks is the best; I have to be honest, it’s my favorite–a classic, white lights outside, a beautiful green wreath on the door and windows and simple decorations in the yard. HGTV has a great example of this in the picture below.

See how your eye is drawn to the decorations but isn’t blinded by them. There isn’t a 14 foot snowman blocking that great front porch nor is there a huge sleigh obstructing the view to those dormers. Even during Christmas we want your house to shine…and that doesn’t involve 10,000 flashing multi-colored LED lights to Christmas music. Remember K.I.S.S.!

Join me next time as I cover how to welcome the Christmas spirit and buyers inside your home!
