The Ol’ Gummy Worm

netI am so excited to start work on a beautiful home this coming week. Before putting their home on the market the owners debated on whether to address the flooring or allow for a flooring allowance for the new buyers. Now, you know my brain…I am always going to say if able, do the repairs and fixing before! No reason to allow for any wiggle room. Then came the next question, if you’re leaving your home how do you know what to buy?

First I would like to state I am NOT by any means a fisherman. In fact most of my fishing trips the only “catch” I get is a gummy worm on the end of my line. I believe the only fish I caught was in 2nd or 3rd grade at a Sunday School party…and I am telling you that joker was HUGE. No, this isn’t a “fish story,” it was really big. But, we were fishing in a stocked pond, so not near as impressive. I probably would have done some serious damage at that pond if I had traded in my fishing pole for a net.

Fishing nets have been used for thousands of years, since the stone age, like before 3,000 BC?! WHAT?!!! I mean do you think they were pulling up some crazy saber toothed armored fish that could chew their arm off–they were insane! This is what I picture a net full of…NO THANK YOU!scary fish

Guess it beats fighting a T-Rex over some Pterodactyl eggs. So I totally just played that out in my head…ANYWAYS!!!

Nets are so great because your cast is wide, your chance of bringing home a southern fried feast greatly increases. The same goes for your home…flooring, paint colors, fixtures, furnishings. I always say go neutral because you have a greater chance of catching more fish!

  1. Paint colors: Neutral – Light beige, tan, cream, or grey.
  2. Floors:
    1. Carpet- Stick with the builder beige, can’t go wrong.
    2. Wood- Stay with medium tones. Too light or too dark are too risky!
    3. Tile- Lighter, natural stone or something that looks like a stone is a classic choice!
  3. Finishes: When it comes to hardware dark bronze or brushed nickel are both timeless finishes that could be great for any home.
  4. Furnishings: I like to keep colors light and bright to give an airy feel. Keep this in mind when outfitting your bed or using a throw on your couch!

So keep the gummy worm in mind as your prepare your home for the market. Use your fishing net, you won’t be waiting long for dinner!
