Clutter Battle 2014

Cluttered-House

This last week has just flown by for me. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I love being surrounded by family and friends…and of course food! During Thanksgiving my sister came and stayed the week and she helped me (let’s pretend I didn’t say that though) battle thru some clutter issues I am fighting in my home.

I know as a stager you think I would have the whole “less is more” figured out and applied in my own home…NOT SO folks, especially since a sweet little boy named Daniel entered the picture a year ago. Who knew such a tiny thing could take up soooo much space?! Continue reading

The Artist in You…

art18b-3-web

I cannot recount all the days I sat in front of our huge wood console TV in my parents’ home and turned on PBS (a gold mine for a girl growing up with no cable haha) to watch the magical powers of Bob Ross…I am pretty positive it flows from that amazing mane. Continue reading

The LBD Rule

I met with a sweet realtor today in town. We spoke about staging and some of the misconceptions of staging. I know you’ve heard the old saying, “Less is More”, this is a GREAT thought to follow while getting your home market ready!

Many think to stage a home you need to bring in huge amounts of artwork, furniture, rugs, and fru-frus (yes that is a word in my vocabulary), WRONG!!! A home is a lot like you or me, a blank canvas. Your clothes, shoes, accessories are all meant to complement your best assets; much like furniture and accessories are for a home. You want your buyer to fall in love with your home, is your home the focal point or is it your furnishings?

I love Coco Chanel’s quote, “When accessorizing always take off the last thing you put on.” This idea is evident in one very famous actress whose style has remained of iconic proportions through the decades. Her simple, clean, effortless look was flawless.

Audrey Hepburn made the LBD (little black dress) a MUST HAVE for all ladies from then until well eternity. Her look isn’t fussy, it’s classic, universal, and I know you are wishing you had this outfit right now (well that is unless you are a man…haha).

So, when you are getting your home market ready, remember the LBD rule…a simple, clean, classic that transcends time and status will never fail!

Faux French Provincial Face-Lift

Well, it is almost Friday, ok to be technical in 30 minutes, but close enough. So, I thought I would share for our Furniture Friday Flip. She (for some reason houses and furniture are always a woman in my brain, haha) started out as a lovely faux white wood that was beautifully enhanced with touches of gold.

Why Stage?

I am sure many people, and maybe even you, might think, “Natalie why make a house pretty if all I am doing is wanting to get rid of it?”. Well, my answer would be if you were going to sell your car would you clean it out, give it a wash and shine, get it tuned up and in tip top shape before showing it to a potential buyer? Of course. Why? Because you want top dollar for that car, and for some reason if there were Cheerios, five empty water bottles along with random lego parts, a burnt out blinker, and “WASH ME” written across your back windshield the buyer may not see it as deserving of top dollar.

The real estate market is tough, new listings are flooding in every day! You are competing against new-builds and new renovated homes. How does your house stand up? Is she covered in old toys and bits dried food or is she sparkling and shining and ready to be driven out on the open road?staged sold seel home like pro

Staging Before/After – Heatherwood

This home was a fun stage! Not only was it full of a sweet family who happens to be wonderful friends, but it was a warm home which has been loved  to life by the current owners.

A HUGE kitchen with an eat-in area is a great selling point, especially for an active family like our homeowners. But an odd dining layout and a bit of countertop clutter may make it hard for the buyers to see this great feature.

Vacant vs. Staged

vacant house

Halloween has just passed, and possibly because I have been enjoying my yummy Halloween Oreo cookies (hello Target clearance) I still have Halloween on the brain. Something that has always been a bit spooky to me is a vacant house.

Have you ever walked in a vacant home? Seems a kind of eerie, a little creepy, like someone may jump out of a closet when you open it? Granted I hope your home isn’t as decrepit as the one pictured, but if it is ummm…there is hope? 🙂 Continue reading

Furniture Flip Friday (or Monday) !!

One of the many joys of my business is furniture over-hauls. Just like anything else, sometimes gems just need a lil’ polishing. Well, and cleaning, and painting, and sanding…. But, don’t get overwhelmed because a little work on your part can save you a lot of money on a custom piece at a show room.

My goal is to have FURNITURE FLIP FRIDAYS twice a month to share with you a before and after of a piece and how you can achieve a similar look, or if you want to purchase the flipped piece you could do that as well!

Today, granted isn’t a Friday, but I have a sleeping baby so let’s take advantage of that shall we?
